Background:
After studying psychology in the Netherlands where I was raised, I moved to Florida and eventually became the general manager of an international multi-million-dollar company. Needless to say, heavy-weight responsibilities and stress came with that heavy-weight title. After 12.5 years of dedication and success, at the end of 2016, I retired from the company. I knew exactly what I was going to do; become a yoga instructor. After so many years of stress and sacrifice, I was going to pursue this passion of mine and fill my life and the lives of others with joy, enlightenment and wellness that yoga and my Reiki training can bring. I am a third degree Reiki master and a certified yoga instructor with 3 yoga teacher trainings under my belt, as well as additional courses to continue my yoga education. I am a wife to my soulmate and mother to my step-daughter.
Reason for becoming a Certified Food Over Medicine Instructor:
In 2018 I began investigating veganism, I did extensive research into the nutrition aspect. What I found out about this diet contradicted quite a bit from all the data I had gathered during the competitive bodybuilding time of my life. This made me look closer at my old information and evaluate the actual scientific studies that bodybuilding diets are based off of, in comparison to the peer-reviewed scientific studies that veganism has backing it. I came to an unpleasant and shocking conclusion; that what I thought I knew about protein and other nutrients, that we all are so hyper-focused on in bodybuilding, was wrong. We do not have to eat animals to get our protein and we do not have to consume dairy products in order to get calcium. In fact, putting animal products into our human bodies, is actually the cause of our top killing diseases. While a part of me stood back and evaluated my past and how wrong I had been when thinking that I was making really healthy decisions, another part of me was standing in the present and I felt like this all made such simple sense. My family and I went fully vegan and each day my husband and I delved deeper into the other aspects of veganism; such as the truth about the treatment of animals and the devastating effects that animal agriculture has on our Mother Earth. Each day, we were so happy that we were making a healthier, more ethical and more environmentally-friendly choice. I want to provide this knowledge to others so that they can find out the truth and enjoy the many benefits of a Whole Foods Plant-Based Lifestyle.
