Background:

I am a Family Nurse Practitioner and have been in healthcare for over 20 years. I was a nurse in the US Navy and practiced in a number of settings including Labor & Delivery, Operating Room, and Post Anesthesia Care Unit. I currently practice in primary care. I have a very supportive husband who is the vegan chef of the family and 2 children ages 11 and 16.

Reason for becoming a Certified Food Over Medicine Instructor:

As a practicing healthcare provider I realized that I knew very little about nutrition until I took it upon myself to become educated. I began reading the works of T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Neal Barnard, and Dr. Pam Popper to name a few. I also started watching documentaries on whole food plant based eating and the health benefits. All of this helped me begin to understand the environmental and ethical impact surrounding eating meat. This is when my family began our journey to a plant based life. I felt the need to empower my patients with this knowledge and took Dr. Poppers Diet and Lifestyle course and knew I wanted to become certified to lend to my credibility so I could continue to spread this message to others. As a regional educator at my company, I feel that I can impact the practice of many of my peers as well as make a difference in my patients’ lives.
