Background:
I grew up on a farm where my family raised swine, cattle and poultry to sell for their meat. This upbringing had a substantial impact on the types of food I ate. I was raised on the Standard American Diet (SAD, but true). I never gave much thought to the foods I ate or how they played a role in my health. It wasn’t until I was 21 years old that I discovered my passion for health when my sister-in-law gave me a book on health and nutrition. This was shortly after my grandfather had passed away from multiple ailments including cardio vascular disease and diabetes. I didn’t want to lose anymore loved ones to preventable health issues, so I started reading and researching anything related to health. A couple years later, I became pregnant which fueled my desire to be healthy. I wanted to provide the best possible foundation for our daughter. Shortly after she was born, I earned my Associate of Arts in Social Science and dedicated my time to raising her. In the fall of 2016, I made the decision to further my knowledge and turn my passion for health into a career. I enrolled in the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute and received my Health Coach Certification and followed up with their Master Health Coach Certification. While taking these courses, I came across Wellness Forum Health and found what I had been looking for all along….truly evidence-based information! I knew right away that Dr. Popper’s InforMED Medical Decision-Making and her book Food Over Medicine were the types of health information I felt confident sharing with others. This led me to become a Food Over Medicine Certified Instructor, and I’m in the process of becoming a Certified Health Educator through Wellness Forum Health.

Reason for becoming a Certified Food Over Medicine Instructor:
I want to share how influential the foods we consume are to our health outcomes. It is my goal to help people understand they have the power to take control of their health by informing themselves and implementing the knowledge they gain.
